6 Minutes of High Intensity Interval Training May Help Delay Onset of Alzheimer’s Disease
Some level of cognitive decline is unavoidable as we age but research suggests sufficient nutrition and exercise can help keep the body and the brain healthy.
New research has found that short bursts of high intensity exercise increases the amount of neuroprotective brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the body. BDNF is a key molecule involved in plastic changes related to learning and memory. High intensity cycling for 6 minutes increased the amount of circulating BDNF up to 5 times more than longer sessions of low intensity cycling.
Whether in our women’s strength and conditioning class or personal training sessions, HIIT is part of the workout. It is not just for the young and it can actually be fun!
